| Course Description: | The Shoulder Dystocia Teamwork and Skills Course is designed to share best practices for the team-based clinical management of shoulder dystocia. Recognizing that shoulder dystocia is not a situation that can be predicted, the course prepares the learners to anticipate that it might occur, along with providing the learners an opportunity to practice with the latest evidenced-based skills that may lead to better outcomes. This course employs active learning methodologies and as such, learners will be heavily involved in acquiring and processing the latest evidenced-based information and best practices concerning shoulder dystocia complications, teamwork and communication skills (TeamSTEPPS), and documentation issues. Learners will practice and assess their shoulder dystocia and teamwork skills using specially-designed shoulder dystocia simulators and team-assessment techniques. This course does not certify personnel or grant privileges to use any of these techniques, nor is this course a substitute for local supervised competency assessment. |
| Continuing Education for Nurses | This continuing education activity was approved by the Corporate Nursing Services, New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
