Nursing Central Line Maintenance Skills

Course Description:The Nursing Central Line Maintenance Skills course for nurses is a two-phase hybrid course that prepares nurses to perform maintenance on central venous catheters using the NYCHHC maintenance kit, and the latest evidenced-based, best practices in aseptic procedure. Phase one consists of web-based instruction that may be completed in as little as one hour and provides the nurse with the declarative and procedural knowledge to perform aseptic central line maintenance. Phase two consists of a two-hour residency provided by trained Simulation Center facilitators at the various NYCHHC hospitals and at the Simulation Center. During this phase, learners receive additional instruction and practice as necessary to allow them to be able to demonstrate competence with the central line maintenance skills using a central line trainer.
