The goal of the "ID=" project is to help New Yorkers:
- Learn about the types of government-issued IDs
- Understand the importance of having an ID
- Learn how to apply for each type of ID
This program is part of the Young Men's Initiative which aims to improve the quality of life of young black and Latino men in New York City. While developing this initiative, the Mayor's Office discovered that having a government ID will make it easier for all New Yorkers to:
- Apply for jobs
- Open up bank accounts
- Receive government benefits and services
The Mayor also signed Executive Order 150 (in PDF) that encourages City agencies to help their clients access forms of ID.
