New York City is home to the headquarters of the United Nations, 193 Permanent Missions to the United Nations, 115 consulates, and 75 trade offices. The Office advises the United Nations and the diplomatic and consular corps about their operations in New York ranging from adherence to local codes to application of taxes and fees to real estate transactions. In addition, the Office provides critical information to help the diplomatic and consular community accomplish its important work. Advice is also provided to City agencies with respect to requests from foreign governments, diplomatic privileges and immunities, and issues of international law. Further, the Office assists residences and business in their dealings with the diplomatic and consular community in New York.
