In partnership with the Mayor’s Office for Media and Entertainment, NYC Global Partners co-sponsored a Digital Cities Symposium on May 20, 2013 that brought together municipal leaders and practitioners from 15 cities around the world to share best practices in digital development. The symposium kicked off the 6th annual Internet Week, a festival celebrating the Internet’s impact on business and culture. Symposium participants discussed progress and approaches to innovation in the areas of access, education, open government, community engagement, and industry – the five pillars of New York City’s plan to build a vibrant technology industry, a strong social media presence, infrastructure improvements and historic investments in education. Participating cities at the symposium included Beijing, Belfast, Boston, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Helsinki, London, New York City, Ottawa, Paris, Philadelphia, Quebec City, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore and Tokyo.
