Mediation Services

The Office of Child Support provides one or both parents a referral list to mediation services. Because some community-based organizations offer mediation at little to no cost, it's often an easier and cheaper alternative to settling visitation issues in Family Court.

Mediation can benefit you in several ways:
  • Mediation can be a no cost or low-cost way for you and the other parent to discuss and resolve your
problems about visitation and/or custody without going to Family Court.

  • Mediation professionals do not take sides. They guide the conversation to find the best solution for parents
    and children.

  • You will have a chance to express your concerns in a private and confidential environment.

  • You may find new ways to think about your situation.

  • You will have a say in any decision that is made about your family.

  • Most importantly, children perform better in school and have fewer behavior problems when they have
both parents in their lives to support them both financially and emotionally.
