HRA’s Office of Domestic Violence Services
Domestic violence has historically been shielded by a conspiracy of silence. Its victims include wives, husbands, children, elderly parents and same-sex partners. There were few options available to professionals attempting to offer services to victims of domestic violence until the l960s, when the women’s movement and advocacy groups first challenged the belief systems that protected rape and domestic violence.

NYC DADS Hosts Upcoming Events
NYC DADS is a citywide public education and advocacy campaign which focuses on the important role fathers play in their children’s lives. As part of this initiative, HRA is hosting events throughout the 5 boroughs to encourage Dads with limited financial resources to spend quality time with their children and participate in community parenting programs.

Mayor Bloomberg Honors Over 100 Organizations Committed to Hiring New Yorkers in City Employment Programs
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg hosted a reception at Gracie Mansion in honor of the hundreds of organizations that partner with City agencies to provide jobs for thousands of New Yorkers. Organizations such as private companies, non-profits, public and private universities, and City agencies have committed to hiring New Yorkers who participate in the City’s many job training and education programs. The Mayor was joined by Human Resources Administration Commissioner Robert Doar, Parks Department Commissioner Adrian Benepe and Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Robert Walsh, three agencies whose employment programs have found jobs for more than 500,000 New Yorkers.

HRA Supports the Expansion of the Federal EITC
Mayor Bloomberg has proposed an expansion of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit as an important tool in reducing poverty in New York City. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) reduces or eliminates the taxes that low-income working people pay, thereby extending their net.

April Caseload Numbers
For April 2008 we had an increase in the Cash Assistance caseload of 1,906 persons and 1,181 cases bringing the caseload to 346,740 persons. There was an increase in Family Assistance of 1,631 persons, an increase in Safety Net of 1,104 persons and a decrease in 60 months, converted to Safety Net of 829 persons.
