Food Stamps & Food Programs

The Food Stamp Program provides food support to low-income New Yorkers including working families, the elderly and the disabled to increase their ability to purchase food. To receive Food Stamp benefits, a household must qualify under eligibility rules set by the federal government. Find out if you're eligible and how to apply.For the Emergency FoodLine call 311 or toll free at 1-866-888-8777.

Households applying for Cash Assistance at a Job Center have their Food Stamp application taken at the same time. Other households can apply at local Food Stamp Centers located throughout the City, which are open 8:30 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday.

Bronx Food Stamp Centers
Manhattan Food Stamp Centers
Queens Food Stamp Centers
Staten Island Food Stamp Center

In addition, there are five extended-hours centers, one in each borough, that are open until 6 PM on weekdays, remain open until 7 PM one night during the week and are open 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays. For certain households receiving Social Security Income, the Social Security Income Food Stamp Center processes their applications by mail, as does the Food Stamp Homebound Center for those who are unable to travel by public transportation.

You or other employable household members may be required to participate in the Food Stamp Employment and Training Program. Job searches will be stressed and training may be made available.
