The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announces that applications are now available for 11 affordable rental apartments under construction at 635 Wilson Avenue and 1350 Putnam Avenue in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

This housing opportunity is part of Mayor Bloomberg's $3 billion housing initiative, Housing in the New Marketplace: Creating Housing for the Next Generation, to finance the construction or renovation of 65,000 units of affordable housing citywide by 2008.

For the studio apartments currently available in Bushwick, the monthly rent is $800 and the minimum annual household income is $32,000. For the one-bedroom apartment, the monthly rent is $950 and the minimum annual household income is $38,000. For the two-bedroom apartments, the monthly rent is $1,100 and the minimum annual household income is $44,000. Applicants will be required to meet income and additional selection criteria. Eligible applicants currently residing in Brooklyn Community Board 4 will receive priority for half of the units.

To request an application, please call the developer at (917) 816-1373 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The City itself does not rent apartments, but works with real estate professionals and community sponsors to market the apartments. You will need to contact them directly to rent an apartment. There are no broker fees and no application fees.

HPD's mission is to promote quality housing and viable neighborhoods for New Yorkers. The department is the nation's largest municipal housing development agency. Since Fiscal Year 1987, the agency has completed the construction or rehabilitation of 212,000 units of affordable housing.
