Recently Unemployed

The current economic climate is forcing many who have previously accessed health insurance through an employer to secure coverage on their own.

The following are health insurance options and health care resources for dislocated workers and others who have lost employer-sponsored coverage.  Be aware that if you are thinking about purchasing private insurance it is important to act quickly.  If COBRA is an option, you have only 60 days to elect this coverage.  And if you are purchasing other private coverage, you must do so within 63 days of losing previously held coverage in order to avoid waiting periods for pre-existing conditions.

COBRA

If you recently left a job with employer-sponsored insurance you may be able to continue the same coverage you held with your employer by paying the full cost of the insurance.
