Sole Proprietors

Starting January 2014, sole proprietors will have to get coverage in the individual market, either on or off NY State of Health, The Official Health Plan Marketplace.

  • If you have health insurance through either of the following options, you will need to look for a new plan.
  • Healthy New York coverage for individuals and sole proprietors will no longer be available after December 31, 2013.

A select number of insurance companies currently offer health insurance plans specifically designed for sole proprietors, which will not be renewable next year.

To avoid a gap in coverage, before your plan ends, look for insurance.  For more information, read our "Self-Employed and Sole Proprietors" (PDF) fact sheet in English.

Our fact sheets are available in multiple languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.
