In March 1992, Sea View opened the first Long Term Care Brain Injury Unit in the Downstate New York area.
Previously, brain injury patients had been transferred to out-of-state rehabilitation facilities because these services were not available in the downstate New York area. Being close to home makes a great difference to patients and their families. Currently we offer a 21-bed unit for patients who need active restorative rehabilitation. A 38-bed unit is also available for brain-injured patients who require extended care.
Our goal is to restore motor and cognitive functions and maximize the quality of life, preserve human dignity and ultimately discharge the patients to a lower level of care or to the community.
The Center's professional staff includes an Attending Physician, Nursing, Clergy, Audiologist, Activities Therapist, Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists, Neurologist, Ophthalmologist, Pharmacist, Physiatrist, Social Worker and Dietician.
