Diabetes Center of Excellence

Diabetes poses a significant threat to the health of the southeastern Queens Community. In order to manage the process, Queens Hospital Center has developed a Center of Excellence for Diabetes and a distinct area in the hospital where our specialists can diagnose, treat and educate our patients.

A team of specialists in endocrinology and in diabetes management provides care to patients with diabetes. The program involves a significant amount of patient education and nutritional counseling. Individualized diabetic management plans aimed at reducing future complications (ophthalmologic, renal, cardiac, neurologic) of diabetes are provided to each patient.

Management of Diabetic Retinopathy - We have the Supervision of several Retina Specialists including Drs. David Haft and Vincent Deramo, with a recently purchased system of digital fluorescein angiography, which allows for immediate interpretation and recording of evaluation of retinal circulation, as well as state of the art laser therapy to help prevent blindness and maintain vision in diabetics.
