Two HHC facilities, Bellevue Hospital Center and Kings County Hospital Center have earned recognition from the National Parkinson Foundation as Parkinson’s Disease and Related Movement Disorders Care Centers and Centers of Excellence, respectively. Neurologists and nurse educators assist patients and their families to adjust to make living with the disease more manageable through intensive physical and occupational therapy, onsite counseling and support groups. Kings County Hospital is a designated center of the National Institute of Health for the exploration and study of neuroprotection—a type of therapy to slow down the progression of the disease.
