HHC hospitals offer dozens of quality specialty services that have been designed to respond to the health needs of New York's diverse communities and neighborhoods. The public hospital system offers comprehensive health services including Women's and Children Services programs; wide-ranging services in asthma, diabetes and tuberculosis prevention and treatment; obstretrics; microsurgery; neurosurgery; cardiac care and so much more. HHC's talents and specialties are well represented by the numerous special designation and state-certified programs run by the public hospital system.

The World Trade Center Environmental Health Center, with locations at Bellevue Hospital, Gouverneur Healthcare Services in Lower Manhattan and Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, is a Center of Excellence to treat people who have health problems as a result of 9/11.

New York City's busiest Regional Trauma Centers and emergency rooms provide comprehensive around-the-clock adult, pediatric and psychiatric care and serve as models throughout the world, including special care in cardiac, neurological, toxicology, neonatal and psychiatric emergencies.

HHC's Designated AIDS Centers serve as hubs for a continuum of hospital and community-based care for persons with HIV infection and AIDS. These centers provide state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary care and are closely coordinated with pediatric and obstetrical departments to extend specialized HIV care to infants, children and pregnant women.

Jacobi Medical Center and Harlem Hospital Center are Burn Centers that are equipped with expert staff and technology to care for burn victims from throughout the greater New York Metropolitan area, known for providing effective surgical interventions to preserve skin and minimize infection and injury.

With two Regional Perinatal Centers and half a dozen Neonatal Intensive Care Units, HHC offers services in all four levels of perinatal care and specializes in treating the most complex pregnancies and the frailest newborns.

Timely, compassionate, patient-centered care are the hallmarks of the HHC Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Centers of Excellence run by all eleven HHC acute care hospitals. These centers are staffed with multi-skilled teams of health care and law enforcement experts who ensure quality medical care, help reduce further trauma to the patient and also strive to efficiently collect and preserve physical evidence to help identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

At HHC Stroke Centers, stroke victims receive quality care and the urgent diagnosis and treatment they need to prevent disability or death often caused by stroke. Nine HHC facilities are designated by the New York State Health Department to provide this life-saving treatment in the communities they serve.

Bellevue Hospital Center and Kings County Hospital Center are nationally recognized Parkinson’s Disease Centers with skilled neurologists and nurse educators who effectively manage patients’ symptoms through occupational, physical and other therapies and assist families to make adjustments in their lives to more readily cope with living with the disease.

Some of the nation’s oldest Sickle Cell Centers are right among the city’s public hospitals. Hematologists and oncologists focus on a broad range of pediatric and adult services to diagnose and care for patients including 24-hour emergency coverage, transfusion services and genetic counseling.
