Two HHC facilities, Jacobi Medical Center and Harlem Hospital Center, have earned Burn Center status from the New York State Department of Health. The medical staff and technology at these hospitals are especially well-equipped to treat the most serious burn cases. Harlem Hospital operates one of the few burn units in New York City that has a specialty in plastic and reconstructive surgery to reduce the scarring that affects African-American patients. Jacobi Hospital is known for its outstanding clinical research and teaching programs and as a pioneer in employing early surgical intervention to preserve skin and minimize infection and injury.
