Bronx, New York – Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a community healthcare center of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), today announced the opening of its redesigned Adult and Pediatric Suites to improve primary care capacity, reduce clinic waiting time and provide a more comfortable and pleasant setting for both patients and staff.
Located on the facility’s second floor, the redesign includes a triage room and two asthma treatment rooms. The newly expanded space features an ample and attractive reception area which serves as a centralized, welcoming space leading to both the adult and pediatric suites, and has been reconfigured to decrease waiting time with “one-stop” services such as financial counseling, nutrition and social work, integrating a patient-centered medical home model of care. In addition, as of October 2011, Morrisania is extending clinic hours to better accommodate working families and school-age children.
Other enhancements of the open-concept reception area include new and comfortable seating and additional reception desks to expedite registration and increase patient satisfaction. The Pediatric Suite boasts a reading room and a play area with child-friendly nautical themed-walls and Plexiglas window to allow parents to monitor their children. The Adult Medicine Suite now provides a conference room and two patient education rooms to offer a suitable environment for health education and group meetings.
This project was funded by a $494,000 New York State grant under the Healthcare Efficiency and Affordability Law (HEAL NY). The renovated suites are expected to serve about 50,000 patient visits annually.
“These physical improvements will help us support our enriched, coordinated health care delivery and practices aimed at improving our efforts at disease prevention and treatment to obtain the best possible health outcomes,” said Network Senior Vice President Iris R. Jimenez-Hernandez. “Having been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a patient-centered medical home speaks of our commitment to providing personalized, customer friendly quality care to those who have chosen Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center for their medical needs.”
“I take this opportunity to congratulate Morrisania’s leadership for achieving patient-centered medical home designation,” said HHC President Alan D. Aviles. “This renovated clinic is a reflection of HHC’s commitment to maximizing efficiencies and delivering high-quality, patient-centered health care to the community."
Dinah Surh, MPH, Senior Executive Administrator, Network D&TC’s, said, “We have a personal commitment to ensure that every patient who visits Morrisania has an excellent patient experience, feels comfortable seeking services and their medical needs are addressed. This renovation will certainly provide a welcoming and caring environment. ”
