Metroplus Health Plan's HIV SNP Enrolls 3,000th Member
New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation Health Plan Is Largest HIV Needs Plan in New York State
New York, NY, July 15, 2009 — More than 3,000 New Yorkers have chosen MetroPlus Health Plan’s HIV Special Needs Plan (SNP) as their preferred plan of care for its comprehensive and targeted attention to the needs of people facing HIV/AIDS, making it the first SNP in New York State to enroll this many participants. Partnership in Care is the HIV Services program of MetroPlus, a prepaid health services plan that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the largest public health system in the United States.
“The continued growth of our SNP is a source of great pride to all of MetroPlus,” said Sanjiv S. Shah, M.D., Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Partnership in Care. “We attribute this growth, in part, to our SNP Marketing Enrollment Educators who meet face-to-face with consumers to help them learn about managed care enrollment options, including the HIV SNP. They also conduct “Lunch & Learn” educational sessions with consumer groups, consumer advisory boards, medical provider groups and other forums. Members enrolled in the SNP have access to a dedicated care coordination team who can help them stay in care, get needed care quickly, including specialty medical care, and receive health education on topics like smoking cessation and routine cancer screening.”
Anyone who has Medicaid, is living with HIV/AIDS, and lives in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx or Queens, can join Partnership in Care. A parent enrolled in the Partnership in Care plan can also enroll their children up to age 20. Approximately twenty percent of the HIV SNP membership is composed of infants and children.
In addition to the HIV SNP program, MetroPlus also offers other government-sponsored health insurance including Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus and three Medicare Advantage plans. The plan currently has 363,917 members across all lines of business.
