$118,000 for Hurricane Relief

HHC nurses cared for patients at the Park Slope Armory shelter.

The Fund for HHC has raised almost $118,000 for HHC employees who suffered personal hardships as a result of Hurricane Sandy, including a $50,000 donation from the Felix Y. Manolo (FYM) Foundation based in Manila, The Philippines.

The Fund established the special Hurricane Relief Appeal to help staff members who are struggling with storm-related losses. The Fund has already begun mailing one-time monetary grants to employees in need. And just before Thanksgiving, in partnership with HHC, The Fund provided $50 gift cards to the first 250 employees who reached out for assistance. The cards can be used to purchase groceries or personal items.

The $50,000 donation from FYM was coordinated through the efforts of Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Fatima Shama. Three additional donations in the amount of $50,000 were made by FYM to support the staff of other City agencies that were personally hit hard by the storm. The other recipients were the foundations that support the City’s Police and Fire Departments, as well as the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

Representatives of the FYM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of religious organization Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), presented a check for $50,000.00 to Joe Schick, Executive Director of the Fund for HHC, at a November 20, 2012 ceremony in Times Square.
