Japanese delegation visits Kings County and Bellevue hospitals.

A delegation of architects, engineers and hospital administrators who are working to improve the quality of healthcare architecture in Japan sought inspiration from major HHC hospital renovation projects and designs during a recent tour to Kings County Hospital and Bellevue Hospital.

The official visit on September 19- 20 by the members of the Japan Institute of Healthcare Architecture was part of the group’s annual oversees study tour of state-of-the art healthcare facilities in other countries to help inspire and support professional skills among the members of the organization, which was established more than 50 years ago.

“The designs at Kings County and Bellevue by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners really caught my eye and I was greatly impressed by these two hospitals,” said Kazumitsu Fujihashi, one of the delegation leaders and Senior Architect at Nihonsekkei.Inc.

At Kings County, Senior VP George Proctor provided an overview of the redevelopment project there, and staff working in the areas of ambulatory care, radiology, labor and delivery, inpatient care and the emergency room provided information about their services and patient flow.

The HHC facilities were among a handful of hospitals the delegation toured in the United States and Canada.
