More than 400 HHC employees joined the March of Dimes walk in midtown Manhattan on Sunday, May 1st and raised nearly $10,000 to support research to prevent premature birth of children and help those born early to survive and thrive.
"I'd love the March of Dimes to eliminate my job," said Jacobi Hospital pediatrician Dr. Jaime Fernandez. "I've dedicated my life to these premature babies and I want to support anything we can do as a corporation to help."
To help prevent premature birth, HHC hospitals and health centers provide top prenatal care for mothers-in-waiting. If a child is born early, there is a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in every HHC hospital, where pre-term infants receive special care. The NICUs at HHC are specially designed to minimize environmental stress from light and sound
and tailor care to the baby's specific needs
at each stage of development.
