First baby born in a New York City public hospital, Alishba Rasool, with her parents

While New Yorkers were counting down the final seconds until midnight on New Year's Eve, mother-to-be Mehnaz Khan was in the final moments of labor at Coney Island Hospital. She gave birth to a baby girl just five seconds after midnight on January 1. The baby is the first child born at an HHC hospital and the second child born in New York City on Jan. 1, 2011.
Weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces, little Alishba is the third child for Mehnaz and her husband Muhammad Waseem Khan of Brooklyn. Both parents were physicians in their native Pakistan and 15 years ago immigrated to the U.S. Big sisters Aimen, 7, and Anisha, 6, also were born at Coney Island Hospital.
