May kicks off HHC's annual Mammogram Campaign, which encourages women 40 years or older to get a mammogram every year. Timed to coincide with Mother's Day on May 9, the campaign points out: There has been much debate about when a woman should get a mammogram. But there is little debate that the people in your life will be glad you did.
HHC hospitals and health centers offer mammograms at little or no cost all year round. This year, HHC will be partnering with the American Cancer Society to host education and screening events during the month of May at several HHC hospitals and health centers. Mammograms are available to women on Staten Island at two local non-HHC hospitals in the borough, thanks to HHC's collaboration with the Cancer Services Program of Staten Island. Visit the HHC website at www.nyc.gov/hhc for a complete list of education events.
