Volunteers from HHC hospitals and health centers extended their spirit of service by participating in the city's 9/11 Memorial Celebration Reading of the Names to honor the lives lost at the WTC Towers. This is the first year that September 11th has been declared a national day of service. Americans hosted fundraisers, literacy projects and sent packages for soldiers in the spirit of giving back, something HHC volunteers do everyday by serving as patient navigators, translators, reading to hospitalized children or just holding a patient's hand to offer comfort.
