HHC Connectx’s Third Workshop
HHC Connectx hosted its third workshop on July 16th,
2008. The workshop series is part of the ongoing work dedicated to
improving the delivery of coordinated health care to the NYC population. More
than one hundred and thirty leaders from the Health and Hospitals
Corporation, NYC Department of Health, MetroPlus, HealthFirst, and others
gathered at the Jacobi Conference Center to discuss strategies for building
relationships between hospitals and community providers.

Executive Vice President of the Juran Institute started off the morning with an
in-depth presentation on how operational excellence can build customer loyalty.
Mr. Early’s presentation covered methods for gaining operational excellence
including Lean and Six Sigma as well as showing how operational excellence
promotes customer trust and loyalty.

In a collaborative learn/teach activity, hospital teams
presented “Storyboards” describing their projects. Participants shared their
ideas and experiences and successes in building provider networks.

Keith Mandel, MD, Vice President of Medical Affairs of the Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital, presented approaches to motivating community practices to
improve clinical outcomes including pay-for-performance programs that rewarded
network over individual performance.

Jane Taylor, Ed. D., Improvement Advisor and Learning Designer,
described her experience establishing a Medical Home.

Last on the agenda were three
breakout sessions dedicated to demonstrations of HHCAdvantage, a review of funding
support for HHC Connectx hospital programs, and a session on using improvement
technologies.

stated Irene Kaufmann, Sr. AVP, HHC Connectx, “These workshops give a platform
for this community of health care professionals to get together and share ideas
