Gouverneur’s New LGBT Health Program Helps Keep the Community Healthy

Gouverneur formally announced the opening of its LGBT Program on Monday, January 25th with a Meet and Greet event hosted by program leader Dr. Richard E. Greene to bring providers, advocates and supporters of the LGBT community together. Special guests included City council member Margaret Chin and HHC's Senior Vice President of Intergovernmental Affairs, LaRay Brown.

“It is great to see a center, part of the Health & Hospitals Corporation, opening up in lower Manhattan and dedicated to the health needs of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community,” said City council member Margaret Chin, “In addition, it is really wonderful to see this new Center here at Gouverneur, which is such an exceptional healthcare institution right in the heart of this community. I also want to recognize the outstanding background and leadership of Dr. Greene. With his dual Board Certification in Internal & Sports Medicine and specialty in LGBT primary care, I believe he will be an excellent leader for this Center.”

Gouverneur's new LGBT Health Program helps keep the community healthy by providing an inclusive and supportive healthcare environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community. Patients are empowered to make informed decisions in a safe, supportive environment that is free of bias.

Led by Dr. Richard E. Greene, the program offers one-on-one consultations, comprehensive primary healthcare, and connections to additional resources vital to improving LGBT health.

The LGBT Health program offers the following services:

  • Primary Care
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • STD Testing
  • HIV Testing and counseling
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV
  • Musculoskeletal Care
  • Referrals to LGBT-friendly specialists

Dr. Greene is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Sports Medicine and specializes in primary care for the LGBT community. He is a regular lecturer at New York University's School of Medicine on the topics of sexuality and LGBT health. He serves as the faculty advisor to the NYU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People in Medicine Student Group (LGBTPM). Gouverneur secures the needs of all patients, regardless of gender, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation or gender identity, by creating a compassionate environment where patients feel comfortable, heard, and respected.
