Breastfeeding Support

Elmhurst Hospital Center’s Lactation Clinic, located in the Community Medical Center building, assists new mothers in learning how to master breastfeeding techniques and improves the support that mothers receive. We take pride in the support, promotion and protection of the breastfeeding relationship. Prenatal breastfeeding classes are available in English and Spanish. Postpartum support is available to all inpatient mothers.

Mothers with babies in Neonatal Intensive Care receive special directed services from the Lactation Clinic and may be eligible for the loaner breast pump program. Download this guide to choosing a manual breast pump. (in PDF)  All mothers upon discharge receive an appointment to attend a one-on-one counseling session in the Lactation Clinic. Mothers and infants are seen immediately by medical providers when necessary.

Funding for the Clinic comes from a grant provided by the New York State Health Foundation. For more information about the Lactation Clinic call 718.334.2582.
