Therapeutic Recreation Department

Therapeutic Recreation Services is a vital component of quality care using leisure activities to enhance our patient’s/resident’s quality of life. Leisure activities are provided seven days a week, through a variety of venues, to improve physical functioning, enhance or regain social and cognitive skills, improve emotional health and self-esteem, and provide a safe, nurturing environment for creativity and self-empowerment. Patients and residents are assessed using their past and present leisure interests, culture, occupation and present functioning status to create with the interdisciplinary team, a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan to help in their rehabilitation process.

• On and off unit, large and small group activities include: table games, active games, word games, social discussions, current events, movies, cooking, exercise, music programs, sensory stimulation and one to one visits.

The Therapeutic Recreation Department coordinates special educational and entertainment events with community groups, schools, religious and civic organizations and foundations to provide a variety of therapeutic, empowering and enjoyable leisure experiences.
