Pharmacy Department

As part of our interdisciplinary team, ColerGoldwater's in-house pharmacists monitor and dispense, from the hospital's formulary, all physician-prescribed medications. We maintain a comprehensive patient/resident profile, which ensures that medications are not contraindicated for allergies or with foods or other drugs the patient/resident may be receiving. Additionally, each patient/resident is given an information packet with descriptions, possible side effects and clear instructions for each of their medications.

If a patient/resident is not able to maintain proper nutrition through diet alone, they can receive nutritional support intravenously. This allows the physician and nutritionist to prepare an individual nutrition order for fulfillment in the pharmacy.

Our pharmacists also participate in the Long Island University Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy as a training site for pharmacy students. These students are allowed to attend interdisciplinary team meetings in an effort to give them hands-on training in our comprehensive approach to patient/resident care.
