Geriatric Care

ColerGoldwater's geriatric unit provides an environment that is both responsive and sensitive to the special needs of the elderly. Our unique location allows patients/residents access to gardens and open spaces with the assistance of compassionate and qualified medical personnel. Our academic relationship with the NYU Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program provides staff that are specialists in the field.

As with all of our clinical programs, the primary goal of care is to assist each patient/resident to reach his or her highest level of functioning and independence. Our program emphasizes attention to sensory and physical needs of geriatric patients/residents. Our interdisciplinary approach pays particular attention to a multitude of factors affecting the elderly patient, such as, pain assessment and management, enhancement of mobility, management of depression, dementia, bladder and bowel functions, fall prevention and the treatment of decubitus ulcers. We also address the elderly patient's/resident's nutritional, spiritual and recreational needs.
