
In the Mayor’s State of the City Address on Staten
Island January 26, 2006 he asked Transportation Commissioner
Iris Weinshall and City Planning Chair Amanda Burden to report
back to the task force in 60 days with a package of initiatives
designed to address Staten Island’s growing congestion.
In the weeks following, the Transportation Task Force was
created and consists of elected officials, City agencies,
State transportation agencies, Community Board chairs and
the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.
At the 60 day announcement March 27, 2006, a short term action
plan, and medium and long term recommendations were presented
to address transportation issues focusing on development patterns,
roadways and highways, bridges and mass transit. The task
force will continue to meet and provide regular updates.
