National & State Incentives | ||

| Numerous federal and state financial incentives are readily available for green building and energy efficiency projects, but are often difficult to identify and gather while researching online. Fortunately, several government and green building organizations have developed databases and lists of websites to connect building owners and residents with a diverse range of funding opportunities. Other state and utility resources are also listed below. American Institute of Architects (AIA) State and Local Green Building Incentives (in PDF) AIA has developed an analysis of green building incentives called Local Leaders in Sustainability, which includes a section on types and examples of state and local green building incentives. Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Energy Efficiency (DSIRE) DSIRE houses an extensive collection of up-to-date online sources for federal, state and local incentives. Established in 1995, DSIRE is a joint project between the North Carolina Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC). DSIRE is administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The DSIRE listings below contain federal and New York State incentives in the following categories: Renewables and Energy Efficiency Solar New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) NYSERDA's FlexTech program provides funding for comprehensive, customized energy studies for commercial, industrial, institutional, academic, health care and government buildings. Energy studies are typically cost-shared 50 percent, up to $1 million per project. Customers may participate in FlexTech to receive 50 percent funding of benchmarking, energy audit and retro-commissioning studies. Participants may select a firm from NYSERDA's list of competitively selected FlexTech consultants or may use an independent consultant to deliver these services. EPA does not directly provide funding to support green building projects.
