The Broadway Challenge

The Broadway Green Alliance (BGA), initially called Broadway Goes Green, first launched in 2008 to help green Broadway theatres and productions and inspire environmental action among theatre professionals and audiences. One of the BGA’s first projects was to work with theatre owners to replace all marquee and roof lighting with more efficient CFL and LED lighting on all Broadway theatres, which reduced GHG emissions by nearly 80% and is saving the theatres an estimated $3 million annually. Now, the BGA is taking its best practices in energy efficiency and sustainability to off-Broadway theatres and college productions.
