filming in city parks
The objective of these guidelines is to make City Parks easily accessible for still photographers and production companies while protecting and respecting the Park and its visitors, its structures, trees, plants, grass, and animals. Requests for exceptions to these guidelines must be made 72 hours in advance. The guidelines apply to ALL city parks. Anyone found in violation of these guidelines, may be asked to leave the Park by Park Enforcement Patrol or Park Officials.

ALL PARKS: 24-hour Park Enforcement, information, complaints: 800-201-PARK. Production Companies should contact park supervisors before filing for MOFTB permit. Contact name for granted permission should be on the permit. Call a film office coordinator for parks' contacts.

General Rules:

Production and photography companies are responsible for all damages. All areas are to be left in the condition found. All damages must be reported to the Parks Dept. and the Mayor's Film Office.All trash must be removed from the Park. It is illegal to use baskets and drums for commercial waste. Companies will be charged for clean-up when trash left behind is scattered by others. No cables, ropes, props, or equipment of any kind may be tied to, supported from, or draped on any tree or structure. No tree or shrub may be cut, tied back, or altered in any way. Respect all architectural features and statues. Do not tie or hang anything from sculptures, decorative masonry or stone, or fountains. No direction signs of any kind may be posted. Provide maps and route instructions to all drivers. It is not permitted to dig any hole or drive any stake, pole, or post into the ground or pavement. Excessive sound is prohibited. No gifts or payments of any kind may be offered to any park employee or volunteer.

Special Permission Required: To use any oversize vehicle, or truck, crane, or other equipment in excess of 10 tons. Notification is required of the routes to be used by any large cranes or oversized trucks; To use or produce amplified sound; To film in playgrounds, indoor facilities or restricted areas.

Advice: Scout all areas carefully, including arrangements for vehicle and equipment access, unloading and parking. Check all special event and construction schedules. Do not count on special services from park operations. Arrangements may sometimes be made for services such as turning off fountains and keeping buildings open past closing. Payment for labor costs is expected and advance notice is required. Do not make informal arrangements for services with Park employees or volunteers. Keep catering operations clean and simple. Do not try to provide hot food, seating, or tents. Remember, all trash must be removed from the Park. Distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages is illegal. Vehicle Use is Restricted as Follows: Vehicles are permitted on paved surfaces only, even if the ground is bare. Park Enforcement Patrol and Police will summons all vehicles without permits. Film companies must inform all production crews that private vehicles are not allowed in the Park. Vehicles should not block paths. If a path is blocked, barricades or signs must be placed at both ends. Speed Limits: 5mph paths. 15 mph on closed drives. Stopped vehicles must turn off engines. No vehicles permitted in Prospect Park on weekends or holidays.
