January 5, 2015 - A new Business Improvement District has been created in Staten Island. The West Shore Industrial Business Improvement District is the first to be formed under the de Blasio administration and will provide support to local businesses like sanitation and maintenance, signage and streetscape improvements, and security services.

The City now has 70 BIDs, which are voluntarily formed community organizations that promote business development and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods across the City. Established by local law, BIDs are self-funded by local property owners and are overseen by the City’s Department of Small Business Services.

Reaching out to the BIDs, the local community board, and council district when filming and distributing residents letters in the areas where a production will be filming are all part of helping to keep New York City a film friendly place.
