February 4, 2014 - STOMP celebrates its 20th anniversary at New York’s Orpheum Theatre this month. The long running show is part of the fabric of New York’s theatrical landscape and a must-see for locals and visitors.

The international production features a cast of young performers who make a rhythm out of anything they can get their hands on that makes a sound. Stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra; Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – trashcans, plastic bags, plungers, boots and sinks – to fill the stage with compelling and infectious rhythms, creating a comic and unique show that is often imitated but never duplicated.

STOMP is the recipient of an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatre Experience and was named a Legend of off-Broadway. It has attracted thousands of New Yorkers and tourists to its flagship production in the East Village. In celebration of this monumental anniversary, the Empire State Building will light up in the colors of STOMP on February 27.
