Beach Flix to Screen Shorts from the Queens World Film Festival
August 1, 2013 - The Rockaway Civic Association and Queens World Film Festival are teaming up for a special night at the Beach Flix film series.
Rockaway Civic Beach Flix, which began in 2012, features a number of local and international short films screened under the stars at various Rockaway locations. The film series faced an uncertain future in the wake of Superstorm Sandy and the resulting damage to the Rockaway area. Like so much of the City, however, Rockaway has proven resilient, and the Rockaway Civic Association’s board brought the series back in July with weekly screenings that will continue until the end of the summer.
At a typical night of Beach Flix, one popular, widely released movie is shown to audiences that typically number over 100 people. This August 17, Beach Flix will be screening nine short films from the Queens World Film Festival, which took place earlier in March. The nine selections include both documentaries and narrative shorts that hail from a diverse array of locales, including New York, Spain and even Iran.
This special evening of Rockaway Civic Beach Flix will be held at dusk at Beach 86th Street. To read about the films that will be shown visit queensworldfilmfestival.com/events/2013/beach_flix, or, to see a full schedule of Beach Flix screenings, visit rockawaybeachflix.com/2013-movie-schedule.
