March Film Festivals Bring a Month Filled with Culture
March 1, 2013 - New York film festivals this month bring together the diverse groups that makes New York a hub for art and culture.
New York International Children's Film Festival, March 1-24, 2013 The New York International Children’s Film Festival 2013 will bring over 100 animated, live action and experimental shorts and features for children from around the world. The festival, founded in 1997, promotes cinematic works for kids ages 3-18. Screenings and events run from March 1-24 and tickets are available at gkids.com.
Queens World Film Festival, March 5-10, 2013 The Queens World Film Festival celebrates diversity by representing both strong local artists and exciting international projects and positioning Queens as a destination for filmmakers and film lovers. The six day festival, beginning March 5, will feature over 70 hours of independent films, returning to the Museum of the Moving Image as well as new venues throughout the borough. ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival, March 7-12, 2013 March marks the 5th annual ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival. The festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities. NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival, March 15-22, 2013 The 16th Annual New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival comes to the City March 15-22. This year’s festival honors filmmaker Izza Genini and musician and educator Yair Dalal with the Pomegranate Award. With the goal to illuminate the scope of the Sephardic experience, the festival will be held at the Center for Jewish History. Tickets and festival passes are available at sephardicfilmfest.org.
New Directors/New Films Festival, March 20-31, 2013 For over 40 years the New Directors/New Films Festival has showcased the work of emerging filmmakers. Featuring films from all over the world, the festival is co-sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The festival runs from March 20-31. Brooklyn Girl Film Festival, March 28-30, 2013 The Brooklyn Girl Film Festival features films directed, written, produced or animated by women.
