August 24, 2012 - The Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment and Columbia Pictures held a special advanced screening of the “Made in NY” film Premium Rush. The screening, which took place at the AMC Lincoln Square, was organized to thank residents for hosting the production in their neighborhoods and to remind them that the local entertainment industry employs 130,000 New Yorkers who work behind the scenes in film and television.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in Premium Rush, which is currently in theaters. The film shot throughout Manhattan at locations that included Central Park and the West Side Highway.
In attendance at the screening were members of Community Board 7, which includes Manhattan Valley, the Upper West Side and Lincoln Square; members of Community Board 9, which includes Hamilton Heights, Manhattanville, Morningside Heights and West Harlem; constituents from Council Member Gale Brewer and Council Member Inez Dickens’ districts; and Assembly Member Daniel O’Donnell’s district.
Dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies, and eight million cranky pedestrians is all in a day’s work for Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the best of New York’s agile and aggressive bicycle messengers. It takes a special breed to ride the fixie – super lightweight, single-gear bikes with no brakes and riders who are equal part skilled cyclists and nutcases who risk becoming a smear on the pavement every time they head into traffic. But a guy who’s used to putting his life on the line is about to get more than even he is used to when his last envelope of the day – a routine “premium rush” run – turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan. Directed by David Koepp. Produced by Gavin Polone. Written by David Koepp & John Kamps.
