Art Heads Outdoors in MayNew Yorkers Get Preview of 'Men in Black 3' as Thank You for Hosting Production in their Communities

May 25, 2012 - Special screenings of the new film Men in Black 3 took place at the AMC Empire on 42nd Street for local residents. The screening was organized by the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment and Columbia Pictures to thank residents for hosting production in their community and to remind them that the local entertainment industry employs 130,000 New Yorkers who work behind the cameras.

In the film, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their roles as Agents J and K, along with co-stars Emma Thompson and Josh Brolin. In the latest installment of agents in black suits keeping the planet safe from aliens, Smith’s Agent J travels back in time to help save the universe.

One of the largest films ever to film in New York City, Men in Black 3 shot on location throughout the City at various places, including: Van Nest Lanes in the Bronx, Coney Island in Brooklyn, and Battery Park, the Chrysler Building and Chinatown in Manhattan.

Before the screening, Rob Striem, the film’s location manager, thanked the audience for attending and for hosting the production when it shot on location in 2011.

Members of Brooklyn’s Community Board 6, which includes Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Gowanus and Cobble Hill; Community Board 5 in Queens, which includes Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, Maspeth and Liberty Park; Community Board 9 in North Manhattan, which includes Morningside Heights; and representatives from the Bronx Community Affairs Unit and the Downtown Alliance, among others, attended the screening.

Men in Black 3 opens in theatres on May 25.
