December 1, 2011 - Two exciting productions will begin previews on Broadway this month.
In The Road to Mecca, an eccentric elderly artist, played by Rosemary Harris, faces mounting pressure from her community to abandon her independent life for a retirement home. Previews start on December 16 at the American Airlines Theatre.
Audra McDonald stars in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, a reimagining of George and Ira Gershwin’s ground-breaking folk opera. Set in 1920s Charleston, it tells the story of disabled beggar Porgy, who tries to rescue the beautiful Bess from her violent boyfriend and scandalous past. Performances begin on December 17 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
