October 3, 2011 - Founded in 1978 by the New York Department of Cultural Affairs, Materials for the Arts (MFTA) collects items from businesses and individuals for reuse in classrooms, studios and on stages across the five boroughs. Last year Materials for the Arts took in over 1.3 million pounds of goods, from essentials like plain white paper to sets from Steiner Studios and Silvercup Studios. Donated materials are redistributed, for free, to thousands of cultural nonprofits, City agencies with arts programming and public schools.

This year, Friends of Materials for the Arts, the nonprofit group established to help support MFTA, is holding the tenth annual Masked Marvelous Cocktail Party at the MFTA warehouse in Long Island City. All proceeds benefit NYC’s premier reuse program supporting the local arts and cultural community. The party will feature puppeteer Basil Twist, performances from Dzeici Theatre and Dance Theater of Nepal, facepainting from Agostino Arts, reuse updos from Fringe Salon and much, much more!
