Broadway Honors New Plays, Musicals and Revivals

BroadwayJune 1, 2011 - Awards season is in full swing for the Broadway community.

This year, Drama Desk Awards were given to The Book of Mormon (musical), Anything Goes (revival of a musical), The Normal Heart (revival of a play) and War Horse (play). The ceremony was hosted by Harvey Fierstein and will be broadcast on the Ovation network on June 4 at 9pm. Visit dramadeskawards.com for a full list of winners.

On May 20, the Drama League Awards were handed out at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Actor Mark Rylance (Jerusalem) received the Distinguished Performance Award. To learn more about the Drama League Awards, visit dramaleague.org.

Clybourne Park, written by Bruce Norris, has been honored with the Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play, which draws on inspiration from A Raisin in the Sun, played at Playwrights Horizons in 2010. Each year the Pulitzer Prize in drama is given to a distinguished play by an American author.
