New Productions Join the Footlights of Broadway While Another Reaches a Milestone

November 1, 2010 - Elves, roommates and a famous web slinger will find themselves on Broadway in November as several new productions begin previews.

Elf starts performances on November 2. Based on the movie starring Will Ferrell, Elf tells the story of Buddy, a human raised as an elf in the North Pole, who embarks on a journey to find his family. The show run until January at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Brendan Fraser, Denis O’Hare, Jennifer Coolidge and Richard Easton star in Elling, the story of two mismatched roommates bonding over pizza, women, love and life. Previews begin November 2 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

Acclaimed director Julie Taymor and U2’s Bono and The Edge bring Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark to Broadway at the Foxwoods Theatre (formerly Hilton Theatre). In the new musical, Peter Parker develops extraordinary powers after being bitted by a genetically-altered spider. Previews are scheduled to begin later this month.

Jersey Boys, the Tony, Olivier and Grammy Award-winning musical, celebrates its fifth anniversary on Broadway this month. During the weekend of November 6-8, a series of events will honor the beloved musical, including: the lighting of the Empire State Building (white, red and yellow) on November 5 and 6, the renaming of 52nd Street to “Jersey Boys Walk” on November 7, a panel discussion with original Four Seasons members Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio, along with Jersey Boys co-authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and more.

Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, the 1960s sensation with American classic hits such as “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Oh, What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You.” The musical is the longest-running show at the August Wilson Theatre, with over 2,000 performances at the venue.
