Pearl Project Theatre Festival to Showcase Filipino American Playwrights

July 8, 2010 - Filipino and American artists will come together at the Pearl Project Theatre Festival at Theatre Row’s Clurman Theatre from July 6 to July 25. The festival will feature world premiere productions of award-winning Filipino American playwrights Eric Gamalinda and Jorshinelle Taleon-Sonza and Diverse City Theater Company playwright fellow Kristine Reyes.

Resurrection is written by Eric Gamalinda and stars Obie winner Ching Valdes-Aran. The play focuses on the suicide of a young woman and how it affects her loved ones. The Encounter is written by Jorshinelle Taleon-Sonza, and discusses an unexpected visit by the incumbent President of the Philippines in his political rival’s prison cell. Quarter Century Baby, a one-act play written by Kristine M. Reyes and starring Ali Ewoldt, tells the story of a parent’s surprise visit to a daughter and her boyfriend. Something Blue is a one-act play by Kristine M. Reyes that follows an estranged father’s quest to reconnect with his daughter on her wedding day.
