"Made in NY" Programs Earn Dozens of Primetime Emmy Nominations

July 8, 2010 - The nominees have been announced for the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and “Made in NY” television series and made for TV movies have been honored with an astounding eighty-four nominations.

“Saturday Night Live,” which was honored with a “Made in NY” award this year after celebrating its thirty-fifth season on NBC, received a dozen nominations, making it now the most nominated television show in Emmy history with a total of 126 nominations. As well as nominations for Kristen Wigg as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and for its hosts Tina Fey and Betty White, the series also earned nominations for art direction, hairstyling, lighting direction, makeup, original music and lyrics, art direction, writing, and technical direction.

“Damages,” which completed its third season earlier this year on FX, received five nominations in the acting categories including Glenn Close (Lead Actress in a Drama), Martin Short (Supporting Actor in a Drama), and Rose Byrne (Supporting Actress in a Drama).

CBS’s freshman hit “The Good Wife” was honored with nine nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Lead actress Julianna Margulies and supporting actresses Archie Panjabi and Christine Baranski received nominations, and the series was nominated for casting, costumes, guest actors, and writing.

Edie Falco earned a nomination for her role on “Nurse Jackie,” which just finished its second season on Showtime. The series was honored with eight nominations in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series.

NBC’s “30 Rock,” which has won fourteen Emmys since 2007, received fifteen nominations this year, including ones for its actors Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Jane Krakowski, for Outstanding Comedy Series, and for casting, cinematography, costumes, directing, picture editing, guest actors and actress, sound mixing, writing, and webisodes.

The HBO original TV movie “You Don’t Know Jack” – chronicling the infamous career of Dr. Jack Kevorkian – received fifteen nominations: Outstanding Made for TV Movie, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie (Al Pacino), and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special (Adam Mazer), among others.

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” were honored with several nominations each. “The Colbert Report” picked up three nominations: Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing while “The Daily Show” received four nominations, including Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series; Outstanding Directing; Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control. “The Daily Show: Ask a Correspondent – The Meaning of Life” was also nominated for Outstanding Special Class Program.

Among the other “Made in NY” programs to be nominated at this year’s Emmys are: HBO’s “Bored to Death” (Outstanding Main Title Design), NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (Outstanding Short-Form Picture Editing), “The Jimmy Fallon Digital Experience” (Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Nonfiction), CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman” (two nominations, including Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series), FX’s “Rescue Me” (Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics), and the 63rd Annual Tony Awards (four nominations, including Outstanding Special Class Programs).
