NYC Shows Shine at Daytime Emmys

July 8, 2010 - New York City-based shows were among the winners at the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. The presentation took place across two ceremonies: the televised gala on June 27, hosted by Regis Philbin, and the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on June 25.

“As the World Turns” took home a slew of awards in the acting categories. Maura West won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Michael Park won for Outstanding Leader Actor, and Julie Pinson won for Outstanding Supporting Actress.

Discovery Channel’s “Cash Cab” was honored with awards for Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show and Outstanding Host, Ben Bailey.

“Sesame Street” won several awards including Outstanding Pre-School Children’s Series as well as for Achievement in Costume Design, Directing, Multiple Camera Editing, and Writing. Performers Kevin Clash (who plays Elmo) and Joey Mazzarino (who plays Stinky, Murrary & Blogg) both won for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series.

PBS’s new series “The Electric Company” received a handful of award: Outstanding Children’s Series and Achievement in Single Camera Editing, Single Camera Photography, and Sound Editing.

Other series that call New York City home won awards including: “The Martha Stewart Show” (Outstanding Lifestyle Program), “Today Show” (Outstanding Morning Program), “One Life to Live” (Outstanding Achievement for a Casting Director for a Drama Series), “The Tyra Show” (Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling), and “The View” (“Outstanding Achievement in Makeup).

Agnes Nixon, the creator “One Life to Live,” “All My Children,” and “Loving,” was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her forty-five years in daytime serial drama. She also worked on “As the World Turns, “Guiding Light,” and “Another World.”
