December 1, 2009 - The 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards got the awards season off to a start by bestowing honors on a select group of independent films and performances.
The Gotham Awards, presented by IFP, provide critical early recognition and media attention to worthy independent films. Hosted by Kumail Nanjiani, the ceremony took place on November 30 at Cipiriani Wall Street in New York City.
Among this year’s winners are:
Best Feature: The Hurt Locker
Best Documentary: Food, Inc.
Best Director: Robert Siegel
Breakthrough Actor: Catalina Saavedra
Best Ensemble Performance: The Hurt Locker
Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You: You Wont Miss Me
The Gotham Awards also acknowledged producers Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (The Interpreter, Burn After Reading), director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), actress Natalie Portman (New York, I Love You), and actor Stanley Tucci (Julie and Julia, The Devil Wears Prada) as part of the 2009 Gotham Tributes.
