September is Back 2 Broadway Month!

September 1, 2009 - Launching on September 9, 2009, Back 2 Broadway Month® will celebrate all things Broadway.

Theatregoers and Broadway fans can enjoy numerous events throughout the month including: the annual free concert Broadway on Broadway® on September 13th, Broadway Salutes special event on September 22nd to celebrate those who have worked over 25 years on Broadway, Insider View Post-Show Talkbacks on Tuesdays, Broadway Tweet-ups, Broadway Open Call Karaoke, Broadway Open House Theatre Tours, Sirius XM Radio Live on Broadway Lunchtime Concerts and Talent Panels on Wednesdays, Broadway Dance lessons in Times Square on Fridays, Kids Night on Broadway, promotions and much more.

September also means the start of a new Broadway season.

Bye Bye Birdie begins previews at Henry Miller’s Theatre on September 10. This Elvis-inspired musical stars John Stamos, Gina Gershon and Bill Irwin and includes classic songs like “Put on a Happy Face” and “Kids.”

Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig team up as Chicago cops in A Steady Rain. Previews begin on September 10 at the Gerald Shoenfeld Theatre for this new play written by Keith Huff, which follows two cops on a routine call that turns dangerous.

Jude Law transfers with the West End production of Hamlet with performances beginning on September 12 at the Broadhust Theatre. Starring as the conflicted Danish prince, Law leads the cast in Shakespeare’s enduring play.

The Royal Family begins previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on September 15. Following the exploits of a famous theatrical family, the play stars Ana Gasteyer, John Glover, and Rosemary Harris.

Superior Donuts, the latest offering from August: Osage County scribe Tracy Letts, begins previews on September 16 at the Music Box Theatre. Michael McKean stars as the owner of a Chicago donut shop whose sole employee, a black teenager, is looking to make improvements to the business.

British class struggles take center stage in After Miss Julie, Patrick Marber’s 20th century update to August Strindberg's Miss Julie. Sienna Miller and Jonny Lee Miller star as a rich young woman and her servant, respectively, at the American Airlines Theatre. Previews begin on September 18.

Carrie Fisher brings her one woman show to Studio 54 with performances beginning September 22. Wishful Drinking recounts Fisher’s legendary movie career as well as her tumultuous personal life.

The Schubert Theatre hosts Memphis, a new musical. Set during the early days of the Civil Rights movement, a local DJ dares to play African-American music for his white listeners. Performances begin on September 23.

David Mamet’s Oleanna bows at the Golden Theatre with previews starting on September 29. Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles are pitted against each other as professor and student in a struggle for power.
