Local Film Festivals Gear Up, Seek Submissions in March

March 2, 2009 - Several film festivals are currently seeking submissions while another looks to showcase films in the month of March.

2009 Native American Film + Video Festival
The 2009 Native American Film + Video Festival will be held on March 26-29. Screenings are held each evening and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. This year the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary with more than 70 outstanding films from Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Venezuela, and the United States.

Showcasing feature films, short fictions, documentaries, experimental videos, animations and Native television productions, the festival brings together Native media makers from throughout the hemisphere to introduce their productions and exchange ideas. For more information, click here.

HBO/New York International Film Festival Short Film Competition
HBO has teamed with The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) to find the next hot Latino Filmmaker. The HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition is an opportunity where the winner will receive $15,000 in funding to produce and direct an original short film narrative shot on digital video (DV).

The final film produced from the winning screenplay will be presented on screen this summer during the 2009 New York International Latino Film Festival. The deadline to apply is Friday March 27, 2009. To learn more, visit http://nylatinofilm.com/index.html.

2nd Annual New York Surf Film Festival – Call for Submissions
The New York Surf Film Competition is open to independently produced feature-length and short films in the surf genre. Submissions are open from February 2nd to May 31st, 2009. The running time for features must be greater than 30 minutes. Short films under 30 minutes in length are eligible for participation in the Short Film Program.

The festival returns for its second year in September 2009, consisting of three days of screenings from independent short and feature films, cult classics, and world premieres from established and emerging surf filmmakers. Visit www.NYSurfFilm.com for submission information.

Imagine Science Film Festival 2009 – Call for Submissions
Imagine Science Film Festival 2009 seeks narrative films with a scientific or technology theme and story line or films that have a scientist, engineer or mathematician as the lead character. Entries will be accepted until July 15th.

The Imagine Science Film Festival is a full-fledged New York Science Film Festival. The objective of the festival is to showcase films, especially fiction films, that effectively incorporate science into a compelling narrative while maintaining credible scientific groundings.
